Nearly Five Decades of Craftsmanship and Creativity
Bold Woodworks is the culmination of nearly five decades of woodworking, building, teaching and creating.
Founder Kurt LeVasseur began working alongside his father as a teenager in Michigan, learning craftsmanship from an early age. His father’s simple philosophy—“If you are going to do the work, do it right”—has remained a guiding principle throughout his career.
That foundation eventually led to teaching woodworking, architecture and construction trades, and in 2013, to the creation of Bold Woodworks.
Today, Bold is focused on the more artistic side of woodworking—creating distinctive furniture, sculptural pieces, silhouettes and architectural privacy panels inspired by wood, movement, nature and form.
Some pieces begin with an idea. Others begin with an extraordinary piece of wood and the question: What should this become?
Modern CNC technology allows us to explore shapes, textures and forms that expand the possibilities of traditional woodworking, while craftsmanship and the character of the material remain at the heart of every piece.
Kurt’s son, Cole, joined Bold in 2021, bringing another generation of ideas, technology and creativity to the shop.
Together, father and son continue to explore what wood and other materials can become—creating furniture and art with enough character to help define the spaces around them.
If something here speaks to you, let’s start a conversation.
Our Philosophy
Kurt’s father, Jerry LeVasseur, instilled a strong work ethic in his family. It was common to hear him say, “If you are going to do the work, do it right.”
Always striving to hone our craft, sharing our knowledge with others, and continuing to learn are values deeply rooted in our beliefs. We enjoy the challenge of figuring out original, complicated projects, and the innovation required to complete the vision.
We’re mindful of our environment and work hard to minimally impact our planet by using eco-friendly materials when possible. We believe strongly in open and honest communication with clients in order to take a project from inception to successful completion.
Our Process
Consultation
We meet with you for a one-time free consultation to get a feel for the project. This gives all of us a chance to get acquainted and talk about what type of work you desire. We believe strongly that it needs to be a good fit for all. Clients need to feel comfortable with us, and we need to feel comfortable with our clients.
Design Agreement
We ask for a signed Design Agreement and a minimal fee to cover the time and materials for pre-construction planning. If you decide to move forward with the project, we will credit the fee back to you. If you decide to NOT move forward with us, you still keep the estimate, designs, and sample materials.
Work Contract
We sign a contract outlining exactly what will be done, what is expected from all parties, timelines, and payment schedule. We will also ask for a down payment to be made. Once the contract is signed and payment made, we will get your project scheduled on our calendar.
